Hemsec SIPS Go The Full Quartermile

Hemsec SIPS are delighted to announce that they have received an order for some 6000m2 of their 150mm thick Structural Insulated Panels which are to be used for the external envelope of 3 buildings on the Prestigious Q5 Project in Edinburgh.

The project has been a collaboration with contractors Systems Aluminium of Cumbernauld and has taken 6 months to design and test prior to the contract being awarded.

Systems Aluminium, headed up by Steve Douglas, have been a firm believer of the use of Hemsec SIPS and decided that they would use the product as part of their tender submission due to the economic and construction benefits the system had to offer.

On being awarded the contract Systems Aluminium along with Hemsec SIPS embarked on a process of convincing the Architect Foster & Partners, Consulting Engineers Sandberg and Main Contractors Robert McAlpine of the benefits our product had to offer.

This process was completed in late October which has resulted in the first panels being delivered to site in November.

The panels that are being delivered to site are large format panels which are being assembled at our process partners, Sips Industries, facility in Dalgety Bay. The panels are, in some cases, 9000mm long by 4700mm high which should allow the installation of a full elevation to be completed in less than 2 days.

Phil Smith from Hemsec commented “the team from Systems Aluminium are the real reason this project has happened. Their determination to make the system work for this building has been tremendous and Hemsec would like to thank Steve Douglas and all the team at Systems for their support in ensuring this landmark project was awarded to us”.
